The Angel Miriem

This is a "Thank You" card from a woman named Miriem.  As many of you know, I am a loyal member of AA.  One of the first meetings I ever went to, and I continued going to for several years, was the Mighty Muffins in Carmel Valley.  (Trust me, when you go to meetings in other parts of the country, you don't say you are a member of the Mighty Muffins!)  Anyway, every other year, AA in the Monterey area sponsors a large convention type gathering called The Roundup.  In 1997, one of the main speakers was going to be Dr. Paul, a cherished and revered member.  Dr. Paul wrote the story in our Big Book which includes the paragraph on Acceptance which many of us, including me, say changed our lives.  Now, I knew that if you volunteered to work at the convention, you could go to the BarBQ that would be held before the convention for all the workers and the speakers.  Well, the convention was not usually what I volunteered for, but since Dr. Paul was going to be there, I volunteered.  I checked and the least amount of work I could find would be as a greeter at the front door.  The greeter welcomed the convention-goes with a smile, a friendly hello, and a hug.  What the hell, I could do that.  Sure enough, I went to the picnic and met and talked to Dr. Paul.  (I touched the hem of his garment.)  It was one of the joys of my life.  Well, Miriam, who was the chairperson of the greeters wrote me this thank you note for all my hard work in making the conventions so successful.  Hehehe . . . I did love Miriam.  Before she died, she literally worked with hundreds of drunks, helping them in their recovers program.
