East of Eden Script

Another East of Eden script.  I really think this is Part III and I really believe the script is Jodi's.  Jodi played Abra in this play and Abra's lines are highlighted in this script.  A word about this play.  The western Stage in Salinas decided they wanted to do the play East of Eden, but one had never been written.  The movie was a small slice of the book and some think was mostly a vehicle for James Dean.  Anyway, the Stage went to the Steinbeck estate to get permission to write and do the play. Elaine Steinbeck who was the estate gave permission but said she wanted the whole book to be done.  A playwright was hired and brought in.  His name was Alan Cook.  Alan was in residence for two or three years.  Scripts were workshopped, changed, done again and changed again until, at last, there was a nine-hour play.  It was produced three times.  I think first in 1991.  Then 2001 and maybe 2003.  Not sure of those years.  Jeanne, me, Josh, and Jodi were in all in all three parts.  (I think.  One of us might have missed one of those years.)  The play was written in three parts each about three hours long.  You could watch the play on three different nights or as a marathon all in one day.  In any case, when the curtain came down on the third part each night, the audience was up, standing on their fee, cheering for more.  It was a life-changing event for all of us associated with the play and I'm told for many audience members.
