Nana's Funeral

This is the little program for the funeral of my Grandma, Nana.  Can you imagine, she was born in 1895!  I count that she was 78 years old when she died.  What a strong, courageous woman she was!  Sometime around 1914, her husband, Bruce, died with the flu epidemic.  This left her with three small children in Colorado.  Here's what I think she did after my Grandfather died.  I think somehow she went to Colorado State Teacher's College.  I don't know if she graduated or not.  But, I do think that she and Aunt Maude and her three kids somehow got to Reedley, California.  I don't know if she kept going to school here to get her administrative credential.  But, she went on to teach at Lincoln School in Reedley and then Superintendent of Great Western School District outside of Reedley.  She had a little house of her own on "C' street in Reedley.  Of course, when I was a kit I thought it was huge.  But, it was really very small.  Two bedrooms.  I think in Colorado she was probably a Mormon.  When she got to Reedley, I have no idea when or why, but she joined the First Baptist Church in Reedley.  She was probably as consecrated as any Mennonite, but of course the Mennonites in Reedley were pretty judgmental about anyone not a Mennonite.  This funeral was about the one and only time I can remember Uncle Bruce being mad at me.  I showed up pretty drunk for Nana's funeral.  He was not happy with me.  That was in 1985, you would have thought I would have gotten a clue, but it took 8 more years of hard drinking for me to have gotten the message and joined AA.  I could go on, but I'm sure there will be other postings about Nana.  By the way, her name was Delsie Warnock.  How's that for a great name!
