Mother's Letter

This is a letter from Mother to me while I was in Hyampom.  She was still living on Hilltop Drive in Azusa.  This was a very nice house.  She speaks of Dad and Jeff and Karen and Larry.  Apparently Dad was still there at this time, it is dated Oct. 7, 1963, although this is the house they were living in when he decided to leave her.  It's just a regular newsy kind of letter, although a book could be written about many of the sentences.

I think that this comment may be inappropriate to a letter from Mother to Rollie, because I will comment on my family and me at that time. Please forgive me.

Mother was right about me working in Los Angeles and Pasadena.

At the time of the letter, Kevin had been born, and we, three, were living with Dad Mother and Jeff, I think.

I worked as a noon yard duty supervisor in Los Angeles, after which, I drove to Pasadena and worked for the Pasadena Recreation Department as a children's theater director, an after school program which was very well supported.

When I finished working there, I drove to Azusa to work in the evenings as a porter at a bowling alley there.

I distinctly remember Karen visiting me at the bowling alley. She was strolling Kevin. She said that she wanted to move to Chico. I did not know where Chico was, but she said there was a state college there. Within two weeks I was in Chico looking for a job, which I found at an A & W Root Beer drive-in. Karen and Kevin moved to her parents' home in Livermore until I found a job, and we could find an apartment. This happened, and she and Kevin soon joined me in Chico.
