A sweet picture of Mother, Aunt Helel and Bruce. On the back it says Sanford, Colorado. I think this was wher they were living when their Father died of the flu. It was pretty tough on them as well as their Mother, Nana, when their father died. By the way, his name was Bruce as well.

Yes, I believe Sanford was there home. I am not sure whether I have already commented on the trip I made with Mother, Nana, and me when I was about 13 or 14. (Oh lucky me - I say that because Nana was the absolute worst driver ever - however, as Rollie has aged, his driving approached Nana's) To go on, this trip was intended to visit Rollie in Helena, Montana, and to watch him act in the play "The Man Who Came to Dinner" in which Rollie had the leading role - I think. The plan was that Mother, Nana, and I would travel to Colorado. Nana, particularly wanted to look at government land records, property tax rolls and so forth that might have to do with her family. Of course she also very much wanted to visit relatives. Then we would travel to Helena and meet Dad there. I don't know where Jeff was.
On that trip, I remember Nana went to the gravesite of her husband Bruce. She was furious, which was awesome, because the gravesite had not been kept and was overgrown. She took care of that in no uncertain terms. Then, I remember Mother and I left her alone at the gravesite for probably about 10 minutes, where she bowed her head and stared at the gravestone. I don't know for certain, but I think she was praying a little bit. I do know for certain she was crying.
You know, I always thought that Nana was a tough old lady who did not put up with much nonsense, but thinking about that moment at the gravesite of her husband after probably 25 years or more, at some time, she and her husband Bruce, must have been in love, must have wanted a family, which they had begun, must have had dreams for the future. His death must have been a devastating tragedy for her.
I forgot to say that Larry wrote the prior comment.
