Nana's Back Yard on Sunday Afternoon

I did not know I had this picture.  I think it is one that Larry sent me recently.  What a wonderful picture. This is a picture of all the cousins on Mother's side of the family.  I am in the back.  Larry is in front of me to my right.  Allyn is to my left.  The two girls in front are Linda and Sue, Allyn's sisters.  There is an extra boy in the picture.  I can't remember his name.  Uncle George and Aunt Helen had him for a while, I think with the idea of maybe adopting him. However, he went away.  We would go over to Nana's house for "dinner" which was actually lunch after church.  Some Sundays it was at Nana's house and some Sundays it was at Grandma and Grandpas house.  We would play in the back yard here.  My memories of this time are very pleasant, although I don't remember much about them.

Yes, this is a picture I sent Rollie. I believe the boy's name was Merle. I am not sure. Some of my best childhood memories are these Sunday lunches. I always preferred going to Nana's because Allyn, Linda, and Sue were there. At Grandma and Grandpa's there really were no other kid to play with. I think Jolene was too young for my interest. I always loved the lunch distinctions between Nana's and Grandma and Grandpa's. At Nana's we ate with good silverware, crystal, china and linen. We had to mind our manners and sit up straight. This was not the same and Grandma and Grandpa's. Grandma grew up on a wheat farm in Kansas, I think, and Grandpa came from Russia, and neither really knew of "manners" and they certainly could not afford china, crystal, etc. I am blabbering on, but these continued thoughts enter my mind as I write this.
I remember it seemed that Rollie and Allyn always buddied up, and I wanted to be with them always. I think the only reason I was not, and I think I was not, was that I was about 4 years younger than Rollie and 2 years younger than Allyn. I was the kid brother tagging along as kind of a nuisance to them, I think. Although one on one with Rollie or Allyn, I was always treated well. I never begrudged either one for the way they treated me. I was treated well, but, as is the way, I think, I was the kid brother tagging along/
